Now I get that we’re all bored, especially me whose Instagram Stories has slowly turned into a meme page, but most of these challenges are bordering on cringe. Admittedly I did get tagged in the ‘Run 5 Donate 5 Nominate 5’ challenge which was pretty interesting especially seeing some of you guys 5k times. I could watch a whole half of football and some of you unhealthy lot will still be panting away on the third kilometre, Arsenal would’ve conceded at least 2 goals by then. There must be a cut-off time where you have to donate double just for wasting people’s time. Your fitness watch must’ve been wondering if you were walking backwards. Unfortunately though I foresee a lot more of these challenges cropping up as many countries including the UK have announced an extension to the lockdown laws. At least three more weeks.. not three weeks, at least three weeks. That means we’re gonna remain in lockdown the way IK Ogbonna remains in Tory Lanez’ IG comments section.
I planned to write COVID themed blogs throughout the duration of this pandemic… to be fair, I often find myself rereading my content and sniggering at my own jokes. My blogs also allow me the chance to reminisce, especially the ones where the theme relates to a particular point in time. I genuinely would’ve laughed at you though if you told me I’d be on the third COVID blog with no end date in sight. That means staying indoors a lil’ while longer… but I have to admit now that slowly but surely I’m losing the plot. Isolation’s got me contemplating gardening to pass the time… then I remember I don’t have a garden and next thing you know I’m on Rightmove looking up four bed terrace houses. COVID’s got me looking into remortgaging my flat just so I can keep myself busy. I’m literally dreading the weekends ‘cos without work it’s just me with my thoughts. Saturdays and Sundays just don’t slap how they used to; you guys in furlough must be experiencing a new type of limbo. It’s crazy to think that before Corona was a thing, people laid at home doing nothing for banter.
I heard China reportedly tried to relax their quarantine restrictions only to be hit with that Corona XS Max that comes with new features. That limited addition Corona that’ll end a man’s week. It’s like this ish is getting iOS software upgrades ‘cos every other day I’m hearing about the new weird and wonderful symptoms people are developing. Gone were the good ol’ days of a fever or persistent coughing, now Corona’s got people losing their taste, their sense of smell and even loss of hearing. “It’s just a flu” cynics keep reminding us about, but I ain’t never heard of any flu which is just choosing symptoms at random to affect you with, roulette wheel vibes. I’m hearing a tiger at a zoo in the U.S. tested positive, not even Carol Baskin is safe. British scientists have suggested that a vaccine could be ready by September but that’s almost half a year away lads, what are we doing in the interim?
And what’s the irony that during this once in a lifetime pandemic we’ll be experiencing our five day quota of good weather here in the U.K.? Yep, you know quarantine hasn’t been fruitful when the weather is a blogging point of discussion. It’s barbecue settings outside yet I’m indoors refreshing Instagram, ignoring the latest challenges I’ve been tagged in. Ignoring challenges like some of these pastors are ignoring social distancing advice. Last weekend was Easter and it was a humbling experience watching my church service via a video link rather than being physically present. I know some of you man are happy not attending church so you don’t have to pay tithe but that’s another story entirely. It really emphasised how Coronavirus has impacted all walks of life such that even religious occasions are being muted. It’s only week five of my social distancing but deaths due to Corona are getting more closer to home. Thankfully no-one on my doorstep has been affected but every other post I see on my socials appear to be how COVID-19 has affected them in one shape or another. Huge shoutout to our school teachers, bus/train drivers, delivery men and women etc, you’re really putting in a shift and your efforts have not gone unnoticed.
I’ve attached a link to the World Health Organisation’s advice on Coronavirus, symptoms to be made aware of and how to avoid catching or spreading the virus. It’ll take a collective effort to reduce the spread, let’s all do our collective part.
